historic home renovation with additions

This historic home was one of many originally built by the Canfield family in the 1950’s. The Canfields were masons and builders who happened to own the nearby quarry of rhyolite stone used in this home. The original design featured a living room fireplace and hearth centered in a stylized stone wall, a signature of their work found all across the Tucson Valley.

Desert Earth and Wood was contracted to fulfill the renovations designed by architect Wilson Peterson. The project included three main categories:

  1. Extensive restoration of wood and stone in the great room as well as on the exterior of the home.
  2. The entire residence, including the kitchen and baths, was remodeled with upgrades and beautiful new finishes.
  3. A large garage with laundry, workshop and breezeway were added to the existing home using stone from the Canfeld Quarry. This blending of the old with the new was made seamless with an all-new metal roof over the entire structure.
